An apology is necessary to Wordsworth, Pope, Keats, Shelley, and other famous poets, prior to presenting this ode.
O, dear turkey, your feathers so full,
Your personality is gleaming as you maneuver freely.
That people don’t understand you shouldn’t be eaten, is just bull.
You are a living being who has children; they should be with you, ideally.
The selfishness of humans to slaughter, cook, and eat you is devastating.
You enjoy being petted and forming deep emotional bonds.
Pictures of your dead body and charred flesh all over social media is frustrating.
I have a feeling I am going to have to block haters of you, if they negatively comment or respond.
So, all who don’t know or understand that Thanksgiving can be enjoyed without eating turkey,
Know that your turkey is pumped full of antibiotics, and steroids to make them giant.
An alternative for you is a yummy, meat-free Tofurky.
It would make me very happy if people would not be harmful, and in the world of treating animals with dignity, just be compliant.
In all seriousness, Thanksgiving is obviously a tough time for turkeys, and those who do not eat them. I am already prepared for seeing everyone’s photos on social media, of their dead birds and how proud they are of their murdering accomplishments.
After Gerry and I spent time a few years ago at a farm animal sanctuary, more specifically, with turkeys, we learned how friendly, and full of personality turkeys (and the other animals) are. The animals that would normally be used for agricultural purposes, are full of love, exude compassion, and humanity, despite having experienced horrific experiences prior to their lives at the sanctuary.
I know this banter annoys a lot of people, who don’t want to face the fact that they are actually eating something that was alive, had children, thoughts, feelings, and experience pain, but I would encourage you to spend some time with a live turkey before eating one. Maybe take another step forward and sponsor a turkey this Thanksgiving. <3
Happy Thanksgiving, peeps!
