This probably isn’t going to be the mask you were thinking of, right now, during the covid-19 pandemic. This is going to be a much better mask!
So, we are all looking for things to do during the coronavirus quarantine, right? Well, it reminds me (Shannon) of things I need to do for self-care. Not only to maneuver through the anxiety of all of this, but to take some time, now that I have it, to take care of myself.
I love a DIY face mask, and started doing these circa 2014 when I really began to dig into DIY projects at home. We started making our own hand soap (another thing that comes in handy right now with the shortage), detergent, and even toothpaste.
It is fun to try out different face masks because you can tailor them to fit your needs, whether you want a bit more glow, to exfoliate, moisturize, or to clear out your pores. My masks usually change with the season as my skin is drier in the winter, and not as much in the summer. Bonus- when you make your own products, you have control of what goes into them. So, instead of all the extra chemicals many companies put in as product fillers, or preservatives so the products can live for months (and sometimes years) on a shelf, you can know that what is going on your skin, your body’s largest organ.
For this post, I wanted to share with you, what I have coined as my “Corona Mask”. You may think that it is named after the current pandemic, but now due to the color of it, and the addition of lime, it reminds me of one of my favorite beers, Corona. Note: it should be said, for liability purposes, Corona Beer (nor the virus) has any involvement in this face mask. 😉
This is such an easy-peasy mask, and uses things you probably have in your home, so you don’t have to go out and get anything, especially since we are all doing our part to flatten the curve of the virus. This particular mask has astringent properties, tightens the skin, and moisturizes, which is what I need right now. Ok, here we go!
Shannon’s Corona Facial Mask
Mix together:
- 1 egg white
- 1 tablespoon of honey
- Squeeze of lime juice
The egg white and lime juice will work to tighten the skin and make your pores less obvious. The addition of honey is important because it boosts your skin’s moisture levels, providing suppleness that takes away the tight feeling that the egg white and lime juice would give you if you used them alone.
I leave this on my face for about 20 minutes. With all face masks, and because I am a bit of a spa lover, I ALWAYS cut up a couple of cucumber slices to place on my eyelids, turn on spa music on my phone, and lie back. You may like to put your mask on and take care of some home errands- whatever floats your boat. This is about taking the time for self-care and getting through this quarantine in the best way possible, right?
