One of the best ways to practice self-care is a spa day. For most, that is easier said than done. Not only is it difficult to fit into your schedule, but it can be pricey. We have put together easy steps to the perfect spa day at home. These steps will make your spa day at home easy, affordable, and simple to implement into your self-care routine.
Step 1: Delicious Hydration
Prepare fruit-infused detox water to enjoy during your spa day. We have several Simple Fruit Infused Detox Water Recipes you can peruse through and see which you’d like to implement into your spa day.

Step 2: Setting the Mood
Create a relaxing environment. Close the curtains/blinds and light some natural candles. We love our soy candles from Carnival Candle Company. They have a ton of scents you can choose from, so on your spa day, you can choose one that is light and promotes calm and serenity, like eucalyptus, lavender, or honeysuckle lemongrass.
Step 3: You’ll Need Some Music
Play peaceful and tranquil music. We have created an At-Home Spa Day Playlist just for your DIY spa day. It also helps if you just want to create a stress-free environment. This music is sure to create the perfect environment for healing, and calmness, and to help your body and mind let go of the tense feelings that you have been holding.
Step 4: Out of Office/Do Not Disturb
Of course, it should go without saying, but we will say it, turn off your cell phone and eliminate any distractions. If you need to tell your significant other, partner, roommate, whomever that you are going to be offline for the day, then do that. Whatever excuse you need to do to reach peak, perfect at home spa day, do it! If you have a pet, go ahead and take care of all of the walking, pottying, feeding, and give him/her a toy to distract him/her so that you can have the day to yourself. You can go a step further and put a note on your door for anyone who may come knocking, “on an important zoom call, please do not knock or ring bell.”
Step 5: Slip Into Something More Comfortable
Get in your softest, comfiest clothes so you can be as carefree as possible for your perfect at home spa day. We stand by Cozy Earth for not only their bedding, but also their lounge wear, bath towels, and their amazing robes!
Step 6: Whip My Hair
If you want to include your hair in this spa day, and your hair is particularly dry or damaged, you can use coconut oil and rub it through your hair to create a hair mask. You just have to figure out the amount of whatever you use, and the type of oil that works best for your hair. Wrap it up in a towel and let it sit during your spa time.
Step 7: Mask It Up- the Good Kind
One of the things that we took away from our year (or two) of covid quarantine was a DIY facial mask. It’s super easy to make, and using the items most of us have in our homes. Egg white, honey, and lime juice. The egg white and lime juice will work to tighten the skin and make your pores less obvious. The addition of honey is important because it boosts your skin’s moisture levels, providing suppleness that takes away the tight feeling that the egg white and lime juice would give you if you used them alone. Add a couple of cucumber slices to your eyes, sit back on your couch or your bed, and chill out for about 20 minutes.

Step 8: Dry Brushing
One of the things that we learned a few years ago that has been an ahhhhhmazing part of our self-care routine is dry skin brushing. Our skin brush is a wonderful tool. We recommend you add this step to your spa day, but also to your weekly routine. Experts recommend that you dry brush 2-3 times per week. It stimulates your lymphatic system, unclogs pores in the exfoliation process allowing toxins to eliminate your system, and increases blood flow. It is recommended that you brush in long, circular motions that go in the direction of your heart.
Step 9: Relax
Spend some time relaxing. If you have an area of your home that has natural sunlight that shines through, sit or lie there. If not, just lie on a couch. Want to take this relaxation up a few notches? Take a hand towel with hot water (not scalding), roll it up and put it behind your neck. Enjoy the relaxation for half an hour or so.
Step 10: Hit the Showers
Bath/shower time. Now it’s time to rinse the mask off, if you haven’t, and wash the hair mask out. Water is a soothing part of a spa day, and a stress reliever. Amplify the benefits of a good soak by adding some epsom salt or sea salt. If you don’t have a bath, no problem. You can make your own body wash out of green tea, sugar, coffee, and other kitchen staples and enjoy a hot bath. If you’d rather skip the DIY making, we like Raw Sugar Green Tea + Cucumber + Aloe Vera Sensitive Skin Body Wash. Sugar or salt scrubs are great for sore muscles, alleviate tension headaches and calms inflammation. The steam from the shower is also really great for opens your pores and cleanses your skin. It can help loosen any dirt and debris buildup, which can help improve the appearance of your skin.
Step 11: Body Butter
Once you get out of the shower, gently pat dry your skin, and use a nourishing body butter to really indulge. Our new favorite is Doll Butter! Ok, well, it’s mine, Shannon, but I have converted Gerry. The Doll Butter is a new by Cocoa by Cece and it is absolute heave to my skin. Better yet, all of the ingredients are natural and leaves my skin feeling supple and smelling yummy!

Step 12: Massage
Afterwards, you can enjoy more of your infused water, while you give yourself a massage. We have a foam roller that we use every day but for a spa day, it is a great time to use it for your back, shoulders, legs, and anywhere you feel like you need the extra pressure. If you are not used to using a foam roller, we recommend you take it slow and get used to it. It can be extremely beneficial once you get used to it. For a great foot massage, you can use your dog’s tennis ball and roll it under your feet.
Step 13: Spa Fresh Meal
At the end of your spa day, or perhaps in the middle, we recommend either having a nutritious meal delivered to your home- fresh greens, vegetables, etc. or take the time to prepare it yourself. Having a spa day, accompanied by a spa-fresh and healthy meal is the best way to nourish your body.

Step 14: Appointment, please.
Lastly, be sure to continue this spa day at home pattern. While you are feeling relaxed, get your calendar and schedule the next spa day. You may not be able to do it each week, and if once/month doesn’t work, at least try for every other month or once/quarter. You deserve to care for yourself in this way. It isn’t a treat. It is caring for yourself.
With these easy steps, and the ability to be able to have a spa day at home, the only thing you need to do is carve out the time. We know how difficult that is, but if you schedule it now, you can and will take the time for yourself and you won’t regret it.
