Our Music Monday series was created during the lockdown of the pandemic. While we enjoyed creating it, and some of you expressed enjoying it as well, we have decided to put our efforts towards other creative endeavors within our blog. Even though the series has been archived, you may still peruse other Music Monday posts. Thank you for allowing us to create interesting content for you and hanging with us during the pandemic and beyond.
We have a blog series called, “Music Monday,” here on Arner Adventures. Since music creates a soundtrack for our day-to-day living, it only makes sense. Every once in a while, Gerry allows me (Shannon) to step in to take over a Music Monday. This is another one of those special opportunities. You see, one of my faves, Post Malone, has graced us with a release. His first, since 2019, needless to say, “I’ve been waitin’, I’ve been waitin’ for a long time, such a long time.” The single, Mötley Crew was unveiled with a music video accompanying it, last Friday.
Though Posty hasn’t had an official release since 2019, he hasn’t been MIA. Over the COVID-quarantine, he was in the spotlight quite a bit with various fundraisers, including his own Nirvana Tribute to raise money for Covid 19 Response. He also took part in Matthew McConaughey’s “We’re Texas” virtual benefit concert, to aid Texans affected by the winter storm. Coupled with a virtual New Year’s Eve Bud Light Concert, and a 25th Pokemon Anniversary Online event that released a cover of Hootie & the Blowfish’s “Only Wanna Be With You,” Post Malone has hardly been out of the spotlight since Covid shut things down. Still, we Posty fans wait with baited breath for the next album, and counting down the days until a new single is released. We no longer have to wait for the latter.
The video for “Mötley Crew,” starring Posty himself, has a NASCAR theme of sorts to accompany the fun, upbeat song. Mötley Crüe founding drummer Tommy Lee has a cameo, as the driver of Posty’s car- always a good time! Staying original to the NASCAR theme, drivers Bubba Wallace and Denny Hamlin also have cameos. Let’s not kid ourselves, the video is cameo-filled with all of Posty’s Mötley Crew: Big Sean,Ty Dolla $ign, French Montana,Tyga, Kerwin Frost, LoveLeo, SAINt JHN, Pressa, Trinidad James, and Tyla Yaweh. You may recall last summer, Posty teamed up with touring partner, Tyla for the summer song, “Tommy Lee.” You can read about that HERE. The video also has all of the brands that Post Malone is linked to: Bud Light, of course, Maison No. 9, Posty Co., Auxlive, London Entertainment, and more.
Lyrically, is “Mötley Crew” the song that many hardcore music critics were hoping for Post Malone to release as his first single since his last album? I don’t think so. There were tons of rumors that Post would come out with a folk or country album, getting back to his original roots. This track takes us back to the fun, old school Posty. Not that Post Malone is ever not fun, per say, but Hollywood’s Bleeding definitely has a darker, more real, side to it. “Mötley Crew” is more flamboyant- back to Posty’s flaunting about diamonds (perhaps the newly installed diamond teeth) and his car- more specifically, his reference to his beerbongs & bentleys-themed Rolls-Royce Cullinan which he first revealed on Instagram in January 2020.
Personally, I dig this type of song, especially now, after the year we’ve had. Plus, don’t we need a summer song? This is it! Let Posty bring it to us!
When asked last summer about making a new album, Posty said,
“I want to make an album that will uplift and show that people are not alone in their times of loneliness and worry and that at the end of the day we all just need to show love to everyone on the planet and figure things out.”
If “Mötley Crew” is a sign of what is to come from the new album, this is definitely going to be a fun, uplifting album, and I am here for it! Although we aren’t sure when a new album is going to be released, we do know that the track is slated to appear on a companion documentary project set to drop later this year, according to a press release. Posty also has several concert festivals on the books in the coming months, so plenty of things to look forward to for us, Post Malone fans.
