We’ve been to Cozumel enough times to know that choosing a restaurant can feel like a game of “Do I want tacos or ceviche… again?”

But if you’re looking for the real deal, places that are actually worth your time (and pesos), you’re in the right spot.

These are the restaurants in Cozumel, Mexico, that we’ve personally tried and loved, ranging from laid-back beach vibes to more elevated dining options.

Restaurants in Cozumel, MX: What to Know Before You Go

Cozumel’s food scene is casual, fun, and surprisingly diverse.

Yes, there are plenty of cruise-adjacent tourist traps, but there are also true gems (ugh, sorry, we mean keepers) if you know where to look.

Please be sure to leave the cruise port, as there are many amazing things to do in Cozumel.

Here are the restaurants we recommend you visit!

1. Buccanos at Night

This one made us want to become the kind of people who plan entire trips around dinner reservations.

My (Shannon) first visit to Buccanos was with my mom years ago, and it’s become a tradition for me every time I’m in Cozumel.

The vibe is upscale coastal but never stuffy.

Think Caribbean fusion, inventive cocktails, and views you’ll pretend didn’t make you tear up.

What we ordered: Gerry had the shrimp risotto, and I had the roasted cauliflower and a customized grilled veggie plate. The dishes were bursting with flavor and beautifully presented, and the cocktails were a delightful surprise.

2. La Monina

La Monina, with its beachfront location and casual, local-filled atmosphere, is a gem that we stumbled upon during a morning walk.

We stayed longer than planned, enjoying the Cozumel vibe to the fullest!

➡️ What we loved: Gerry went for the fresh ceviche, and I had the veggie fajitas with a side of plantains. The margaritas were strong in the best way.

3. Casa Mission

Feels like stepping into someone’s fancy garden. It’s a go-to for more traditional Mexican fare in a hacienda-style setting. It leans toward the touristy side, but the food holds up.

➡️ Top tip: Order the lime soup and the catch of the day.

4. Kondesa

Romantic setting, open-air garden dining, and a more modern take on Mexican food. One of our faves, for sure!

The flavors are delish, and the service was the best we had in Cozumel.

➡️ Expert advice: Opt for the tasting platter if you’re undecided. Totally worth it.

5. El Coffee Cozumel

For those days when you need a comforting start, we recommend visiting our go-to breakfast spot. The chill vibes, good coffee, and solid breakfast set the perfect tone for a day of exploring Cozumel.

➡️ The best rec: Don’t skip the chilaquiles.

Other Notable Restaurants

We didn’t get to try these, but they kept coming up in recommendations:

Why We Trust These Spots (And Why You Can Trust Us)

We didn’t Google our way into these. We walked the streets, asked locals, and ate our weight in tacos, so you don’t have to.

These restaurants in Cozumel, Mexico, are ones we’d return to in a heartbeat, and that’s saying something when there’s a whole island full of options.

It should also be noted that having a tree nut allergy while traveling can be frightening; however, having a plan to read the menu carefully and review the allergy in both English and Spanish made the experience feel safer.

Just plan accordingly if you have dietary or allergy restrictions.

FAQs | Frequently Asked Questions

Surprisingly decent. Most places have a couple of vegetarian options, especially in the more modern restaurants.

Optional Reader Tool

Some readers like using tools such as ChatGPT to reflect, plan, or think through ideas they’re reading about.

If that’s you, you can copy this prompt and use it alongside the article:

“Summarize the key points from this article and help me apply them to my own situation.”

This is completely optional and meant as a personal reflection or planning aid, not a shortcut.
