When we boarded the Scarlet Lady Creator Voyage with Virgin Voyages, one thought kept hitting us over and over:
“How did we end up here?”
Not in a dramatic way. More in a full-circle kind of way.
A few years ago, we were buried in work, running nonstop, and trying to build a life that looked successful on paper.
Now, somehow, after completely changing our lifestyle and betting on ourselves, we were standing on a ship packed with creators from all over the world because a cruise line we genuinely loved invited us on board.
That’s a weird thing to process.

What Exactly Was the Creator Voyage?
Imagine a normal Virgin Voyages sailing, then multiply the cameras, tripods, and people filming cocktail shots by about a thousand.
That was the vibe.
The Creator Voyage brought together influencers, bloggers, photographers, videographers, and content creators from every niche imaginable.
Travel creators, wellness creators, comedians, magicians, luxury influencers, fashion creators, food bloggers… honestly, probably people with niches we still do not fully understand but welcome the opportunity!
Everywhere you looked, someone was filming something. It never felt awkward.
You’d walk past somebody practicing a transition in the hallway, another creator editing a Reel by the pool, and someone else balancing a camera on a salt shaker at dinner, trying to get “the shot.” Yeah, we get that.

As people who create content for a living, we found it equal parts inspiring and completely overstimulating at first.
It Weirdly Made Us Feel Less Alone
One thing we did not expect was how validating the trip would feel.
Most days, content creation is honestly pretty isolated.
It’s sitting with laptops.
Editing at midnight.
Fixing blog formatting issues.
Trying to understand algorithm changes…again.
Refilming the same clip because the lighting looked weird.
Answering emails while everyone else thinks you are “simply traveling.”
So being surrounded by people who understood that lifestyle without explanation felt peculiarly comforting.
Nobody looked confused when someone stopped mid-conversation to film a quick clip.
Nobody questioned why creators were carrying cameras everywhere.
Nobody blinked when someone disappeared for an hour to edit content before dinner.
For once, everybody just got it.
Meeting Richard Branson Was Dreamlike
We still laugh about this because there really is no casual way to say, “Oh yeah, we met Richard Branson.”

But honestly, the bigger feeling was gratitude.
Not because we were chasing celebrity moments. That has never really been our thing.
It was more about perceiving how much our lives have changed.
Years ago, we were exhausted, burned out, and constantly working. We knew something about our lifestyle was unsustainable, but changing everything looked terrifying at the time.
Now we somehow make a living relating stories, traveling, writing, filming, and building a slower life that actually feels aligned with who we are.
Standing on that ship felt like proof that taking the risk was worth it.
Was It Different From a Normal Virgin Voyages Sailing?
Definitely.
The actual cruise experience still had everything we already loved about Virgin Voyages:
- incredible restaurants
- adults-only atmosphere
- beautiful ship design
- genuinely fun entertainment
- wellness spaces that do not feel stuffy
- freedom to do your own thing without strict schedules
But the energy on board was completely different from that of a typical sailing.

This was not a quiet, unplugged vacation.
This was creators networking, filming, editing, brainstorming, posting, collaborating, and trying to capture everything happening around them in real time.
At one point, we realized people were probably filming us while we were filming something else, which honestly feels like the most creator-trip sentence ever written.
The Part Nobody Really Talks About
Creator trips are work.
Fun work, yes.
Amazing opportunities, absolutely.
But still work.
A short Reel can take hours from filming to exporting, including editing, voiceovers, caption writing, and revisions.
There were nights we were still editing content long after midnight while also enjoying our amazing accommodations.
Frankly, being around so many creators also reminded us how easy it is to accidentally stop living in the moment, since everything starts to feel like content.
That was probably our biggest takeaway from the trip.

Some moments deserve to stay memories instead of becoming posts.
We actually started putting our cameras down more toward the end of the sailing because we did not want to experience the entire trip through a screen.
Why This Invitation Actually Meant Something to Us
What made this feel special is that we were sailing with Virgin Voyages long before this invitation ever happened.
This was not one random sponsored trip where we showed up pretending to love something for content.
We already loved the brand.
We already talked about them constantly.
We already recommended them to friends.
So getting invited to the Creator Voyage felt less like a flashy influencer moment and more like recognition from a brand we had genuinely supported for years.
That made it feel personal.
Would We Sail Virgin Voyages Again?
Absolutely.
To be honest, seeing the behind-the-scenes creator side did not change that.
If anything, it reinforced why we liked the brand in the first place. The experience still feels more relaxed, more modern, and more intentional than much traditional cruising.

It fits how we like to travel now.
Less pressure.
Less chaos.
Better food.
Better atmosphere.
More freedom to just exist and enjoy yourself.

One Last Thought
We spent years wondering if leaving our old life behind was irresponsible.
There were plenty of moments where the uncertainty felt overpowering. Building a business online is not exactly the stable path people recommend.
But standing onboard the Creator Voyage, surrounded by people who had also built unconventional careers for themselves, reminded us that sometimes the weird path ends up being the right one after all.

FAQs | Frequently Asked Questions
Most creators are invited directly by Virgin Voyages or through agency partnerships. Brands typically look for creators who already align with their audience and have an established style of storytelling, engagement, and content quality.
Not necessarily. Many brands today focus more on engagement, storytelling, niche audiences, and content quality rather than just follower count alone.
No, the Creator Voyage was an invitation-only sailing specifically organized for creators and media guests. However, regular Virgin Voyages sailings still offer many of the same restaurants, entertainment, and onboard experiences.
