2020 is here! What better way to groove into 2020 than to see it clearly, through less stuff! Get it, 2020=see clearly?! 🙂 Oh well, we digress.
As we have mentioned before, we are BIG fans of The Minimalists. They are one of our four lifestyle resources at the bottom of our website. Joshua and Ryan helped us cultivate our minimalist lifestyle back in 2017, and we haven’t looked back since. However, as time goes by, some of our practices to not accumulate stuff, sort of falls to the wayside, and all of a sudden, we start seeing things lying around that we don’t need. Personally, it is believed that we get busy, purchase items that we think will make our lives easier, and voila!- crap ensues. Don’t get us wrong, we still live minimally, and our friends and family now know not to give us material things for gifts over the holidays, but items still trickle in, little by little, over the course of a year.
We are going to use 2020 as a fresh start, to get back to basics. We are going to declutter, using the 30-Day Minimalism Game. You can do it by yourself, but it is more fun if you do it with someone.
Here is how it works:
- Day 1: You get rid of one item. This item can be anything: books, collectibles, clothes, kitchen items, appliances, make-up, tools, whatev!
- Day 2: You get rid of two items.
- Day 3: three items, and so on, and so on, for each day.
The first few days seem pretty simple. As each day goes by, you and your competitor continue to challenge each other to get rid of items. Think of it- on day 20, you get rid of 20 items that day. By the end of the month, if you make it all the way to January 30th, you will have gotten rid of 465 items!! Wowzers! You can create a prize for the person who wins! Be sure to make the prize something that is not materialistic, like, perhaps the winner gets their car washed by the loser. Oh, and if you haven’t figured it out, the person who wins is the person who can go the furthest into the month.
If you opt to give this game a try, let us know how it worked out! We are looking forward to the challenge.
