The Grand Idyllwild Lodge is located in the quaint mountain village of Idyllwild, California, Idyllwild Pine Cove to be exact. This peaceful place is a perfect escape from the busy city. You can easily explore various activities and attractions, including some of the most beautiful hiking trails in the state.
You may find cabins in Idyllwild all around, but just keep driving. The Grand Idyllwild is waiting.
The Lodge is located at an altitude of 5,300 feet, with the most picturesque views of the surrounding natural beauty.
You’ll be surrounded by towering pine trees and pristine nature, with breathtaking views of the San Jacinto Mountains. However, this destination has more than just awe-inspiring nature views to offer.
The Grand Idyllwild Lodge is a great place to enjoy a peaceful vacation while also being close to local restaurants, charming shops, and art galleries. You’ll have easy access to outdoor activities and can explore the delightful local culture.
How to Get There?
Idyllwild is easily accessible by car, with the nearest airports in Palm Springs and Hemet/San Jacinto Valley. Once you’ve arrived, navigating to The Grand Idyllwild Lodge is fairly straightforward — just take Hwy 243 up into the San Jacinto Mountains until you reach Idyllwild.
Then it’s a short drive to the lodge. Idyllwild is fairly accessible by ridesharing apps like Uber and Lyft. We recommend renting a car so you can explore the area more easily.

The Lodge- Why it is Better than Traditional Cabins in Idyllwild
First off, let’s talk about the lodge itself. It is a stunning property that blends modern amenities with rustic charm. This isn’t going to be your traditional knotty pine mountain cabin. Oh, no. Think cabins in Idyllwild, elevated! We don’t just mean elevated by altitude. We mean the experience is elevated!
From the moment we walked into the lobby, we were struck by the warmth of the staff and the attention to detail in the decor. The lodge has several common areas, including a living room with a cozy fireplace and a charming library with plenty of books to peruse.
The entire open floor plan of the lodge itself allows for a freeing vibe. It is truly as if you have stepped into a hidden oasis.
The living room is not only spacious but it is also adorned with comfortable sofas and chairs that beckon you to relax and unwind. The large stone fireplace creates a cozy atmosphere that is perfect for chilly mountain nights. The room is also equipped with a large flat-screen television, allowing guests to catch up on their favorite shows or watch a movie together.
The Grand Idyllwild Charm

Moving on to the charming library, the shelves have a vast collection of books, ranging from popular fiction to classics to non-fiction. The space is beautifully decorated with pictures, antique furniture, and colorful rugs that give it a cozy feel.
Cabins in Idyllwild cannot match to the offerings of The Grand Idyllwild.
Additionally, the library is equipped with comfortable armchairs that make it easy to settle down with a good book. It is the perfect place to escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and get lost in another world.
The outside of the Lodge also has a wrap-around porch and views from the deck of Lily Rock & Tahquitz Peak. The views at night are spectacular when the stars come out. Whether you want to relax in front of the fireplace or get lost in a good book, the lodge has everything you need to make your stay unforgettable.
The Guest Room
As for our room, we were blown away by the luxurious accommodations. We stayed in the Suite Bliss room, and it was nothing short of spectacular. Our room was spacious and well-appointed, with a comfortable king-sized bed, a large flat-screen TV, and a nice seating area with an electric fireplace.
The design of the room was very cozy, with neutral tones, wood features, and simple accents. It also came with a fridge and Keurig coffee/tea station. The whole aesthetic was modern-cozy.
The bathroom was equally impressive, with dual-headed spa showers. We appreciated the little touches, like the fluffy bathrobes and Tarocco bath essentials. The full wall of windows was our favorite part of the room — it had a wonderful view of the mountains, and we loved watching the sunset as we relaxed in the evening.
There are 11 suites for you to choose from, so if you are with a group, know that there are multiple bedrooms (villas and suites) for your group. You won’t find lodges or cabins in Idyllwild offering the luxury that The Grand Idyllwild offers.
The Hospitality
One of the highlights of my stay at The Grand Idyllwild Lodge was the hospitality and service. From the front desk staff to the housekeeping team, everyone we interacted with was friendly and accommodating. The check-in process was easy, especially since we arrived late.
They went out of their way to ensure that our stay was comfortable and enjoyable. We also appreciated the complimentary breakfast that was available each morning – a delicious start to the day. Their gourmet breakfast includes different hot entrees on the weekends, along with its standard daily breakfast offerings, which include different pastries, fresh fruits, eggs, bacon, and more.
The coffee was locally sourced. The coffee is from Black Mountain Coffee Roasting, based in Idyllwild, California and it is delish!
Amenities
Now let’s talk about the amenities. The lodge has a range of activities to keep guests entertained, including a sauna, a gym, a spa, and a mini-golf course. Unfortunately, when we visited, the mini-golf course was closed due to snowfall, but we can imagine it would be a fun activity in the warmer months. Although it was cold outside, the sauna provided a pleasant break after a long day of exploring.
They also have an in-lodge spa with a variety of treatments and services to choose from. It’s definitely something that we wish we had utilized, but it was definitely on our list for the next visit.
What Else Is There to Do?
The Grand Idyllwild Lodge is an outdoor enthusiast’s paradise, with plenty of activities to enjoy in the area. Whether you’re looking for a leisurely hike or an adventure-packed weekend, you’ll find something that suits your needs. Some popular things to do include skiing, mountain biking, fishing, and horseback riding.
The Grand Idyllwild Lodge is also just minutes from popular tourist spots such as Lake Hemet and Idyllwild Park. There are plenty of trails to explore in the San Jacinto Mountains as well. Plus, with nearby restaurants and shops, you’ll never be bored in Idyllwild.
We met a few people in town who were in town for the Idyllwild hiking. Their main attraction was the San Jacinto State Park.
A little nugget for those who want the hidden gems— Michelle, the manager of The Grand Idyllwild told us about Lily Rock, aka Tahquitz Rock. We saw the majestic appearance while walking and asked her about it. Lily Rock sits at 5,300 feet with an elevation gain of 1,000 feet.
Of course, while you are in Southern California, you must visit Palm Springs and Joshua Tree.

If you are traveling with more than you and one other person, check availability for multiple rooms. Each guest room sleeps two. It would be the perfect place for a girls’ weekend, or a few friends traveling together.
We envisioned Idyllwild being the perfect place for a small wedding, and the Grand Idyllwild being the headquarters.
If you are looking for a pet-friendly option, this is not the place. While we LOVE our dog, the Grand Idyllwild is more about relaxing with a loved one— more of a romantic vibe. If you are traveling with your pet, there are plenty of other options from rustic cabins, and pet friendly cabins that are more of that type of vibe.
