Our Recommendations for Summer Activities for Adults
What is super fun is to choose some fun activities, make bucket lists for all seasons, and write them on small pieces of paper. Put the activities in a bucket. Each week, choose an activity from the free summer bucket, or your splurge summer bucket.
Do it however you want to do it! It’s all about having an exciting summer! Let’s get to it!
Get Outdoors
We absolutely love a day outside. We often have to pretend we are on vacation so that we don’t have the home chore distractions that stop us from getting out and having fun.
One of our favorite summer activities for adults to do outdoors is a game of badminton. We have a kit that we can set up at home, on the beach, or on a road trip.
It is great to engage in other activities like tennis, golf, beach volleyball, soccer, or basketball, too. These sports provide exercise and a chance to enjoy the warm weather.
Let’s not forget a simple afternoon of lying in the hammock with an easy summer read. Also, a bike ride is a fun adventure to do at any age.
Hiking and Nature Walks
Explore nearby trails, parks, or nature reserves. Hiking and nature walks offer a great way to connect with nature, get some exercise, and enjoy breathtaking views. Plus, if you are traveling, know that walking outdoors in a new area is the best way to see and experience the area.
Be Near Water
Get near water. Whether you take a trip to the ocean, a lake, a pond, or a pool, just enjoy all that water brings. Water activities such as swimming, paddleboarding, kayaking, canoeing, surfing, or sailing bring many benefits and enjoyment. It is one of the best summer activities for adults.

These activities are refreshing and can be a fun way to cool off during the summer months. Let’s not forget a good water balloon fight. That is a good time at any age!
Picnics and Grilling
Organize a picnic with friends or family in a scenic location or have a cookout gathering in your backyard. Enjoy delicious food, good company, and the great outdoors.

We can also acknowledge that sometimes you don’t want to do these things with people. You can do it on your own. We get that! We have recommendations for grills for small dwellings such as apartments and tiny homes if you are searching for the perfect grill for your lifestyle.
Outdoor Yoga or Fitness Classes
Take advantage of the pleasant weather by participating in outdoor fitness classes, yoga sessions, or group workouts. Many parks and fitness studios offer these activities during the summer months.

Road Trips
Plan a road trip to explore new destinations or revisit your favorite ones. Discover scenic routes, visit landmarks, enjoy local cuisine, and make lasting memories along the way. Road trips are budget-friendly. If you are looking for more budget-friendly summer vacation ideas, we have them for you here.
Music Festivals and Outdoor Concerts
Attend music festivals or outdoor concerts in your area. Experience live music performances, immerse yourself in the festival atmosphere, and enjoy the company of fellow music enthusiasts.
Many cities and towns have free summer concerts. Put them on your schedule and make it a fun summer activity!

Gardening
Start a garden or tend to your existing one. Listen. There is nothing that we enjoy more than hanging by our garden, enjoying what we have grown.
Gardening can be a therapeutic and rewarding activity, allowing you to spend time outdoors while nurturing plants and enjoying the beauty of nature. Trust us. Even if you have a tomato plant, you will love it. Spending time growing your own food is one of the fabulous summer activities for adults.
Outdoor Movie Nights
Set up a backyard movie night or attend outdoor movie screenings in your community. Grab some snacks, and blankets, and enjoy classic or contemporary movies under the stars.
We have found that even sitting outside with our laptop with a movie is a fun evening.
Cultural Festivals and Events
Check out local cultural festivals, art exhibitions, food fairs, or farmers’ markets happening in your area. These events often take place during the summer and provide opportunities to explore different cultures and cuisines.

Camping
We love camping any time of year, but there is something about summer camping that makes it even more exciting. Enjoying a night around a firepit, or even a board game night inside the tent or by the firelight is a great time! New to camping? We have information on camping for beginners you can check out.
While we’re on board game night, board games are also a fun activity inside, at home, any time of year!
