Yes, we soaked in waterfalls, but we also slowed down long enough to appreciate the people, stories, and local flavor that made this place unforgettable.
Konoko Falls + Garden
Let’s start with the one that hit us right in the feels: Konoko Falls.
Konoko Falls is just amazing! That is an understatement. First, Konoko means rainforest, and that is what it is.
We took a ride through Fern Gulley, which is literally a few miles of all kinds of ferns. It is a dreamland for plant lovers!
It’s a tropical oasis that hasn’t been overrun by crowds. We took a guided tour through the lush gardens, learned about native plants and their traditional uses, and even had a few close encounters with birds and reptiles (don’t worry—friendly ones).
But the real gem? The waterfall climb.
It’s way less commercial than Dunn’s River and more peaceful, too. We got to take our time, soak it all in, and actually hear the falls. Magical.

Experience Bob Marley’s Legacy
Ocho Rios takes great pride in being one of the homes of Bob Marley—and you feel it.
The music pulses everywhere. It’s not just background noise—it’s a cultural heartbeat. Whether you’re walking through the market or catching a local band on the beach, you’re reminded that this island raised a legend.
If you have time, take a drive to the nearby village of Nine Mile, his birthplace and final resting place. We didn’t get there this time, but the local stories shared in town still gave us chills.
Chill Beach Time
There are plenty of beach clubs, but we loved the low-key public beaches where you can grab a chair, sip on something fruity, and just be.
You don’t have to spend a lot to have a beautiful beach day in Ocho Rios.
Ochos Rios Bay Beach is a great public beach with gorgeous water that is clean and safe.
Grab some jerk chicken nearby and make a day of it. Bonus points for a beachside nap.
Dunn’s River Falls (If You’re Up for the Crowds)
We’d be remiss not to mention the most iconic attraction in Ocho Rios. Dunn’s River Falls is a popular (read: very popular) waterfall that you can climb hand-in-hand with a group of fellow travelers.
It’s beautiful, no doubt—but it’s also busy. Think tour buses, life jackets, and holding hands with strangers in a human chain as you climb up.
If you’re craving a social, high-energy experience, go for it! But if you’re looking for something more peaceful and personal, we prefer Konoko Falls.
Still, Dunn’s is a huge part of Ocho Rios’ tourism scene, and we totally get the draw—it’s bucket list-worthy for many.
Craft Market in Town
Yes, it’s a little hectic—but also full of charm. The Ocho Rios Craft Market is filled with handmade jewelry, wood carvings, and other souvenirs you won’t find in the airport gift shop.
We loved chatting with the local artisans about their work and grabbing gifts that actually meant something.
Pro tip: bring small bills and a kind attitude—these are real people, not sales machines.
Eat Local (Really Local)
One of our favorite meals was from a roadside jerk stand that didn’t have a name. Just a guy with a grill and a whole lot of flavor.
Ocho Rios has plenty of sit-down restaurants, but we recommend tasting your way through the town with small bites from local spots. Ask your driver or your host—they always know the gems.

More than any attraction, what stuck with us most were the people. Friendly, warm, full of stories and pride for their community.
