Little Havana should not be overlooked. You will need to catch an Uber since it is not within walking distance of the South Beach area, but taking a tour of this Cuban gem is worth the trip to Miami.
We found that Little Havana was one of our favorite places and wish we could have spent more time there. Little Havana stands as the most renowned Cuban exile community worldwide, distinguished by its vibrant street life, diverse culinary delights, rich musical heritage, and a plethora of cultural activities.
This neighborhood thrives with small business ventures, impassioned political engagement, and a profound sense of camaraderie among its inhabitants, radiating an overwhelming sense of warmth and hospitality.

On one of our visits, and possibly one of the hottest days we had ever experienced, we enjoyed time at the Miami Beach Botanical Garden. The 3-acre Miami Beach Botanical Garden graces its landscape with a delightful array of flowering trees, orchids, philodendrons, and over 100 diverse palm species.
Among its captivating elements, you’ll find a tranquil koi pond, elegant fountains, a serene Japanese Garden, a vibrant Native Garden, and a fruitful Edible Garden, all connected by the scenic Collins Canal Promenade.
Embracing the heart of the garden, the central Great Lawn offers ample open space, inviting visitors to unwind and indulge in leisurely activities. Plus, you will view some of the most unique trees you have ever seen!

We have never rented a car in South Beach. If you want to head to Little Havana and Wynwood Walls, you will need a cap. Otherwise, South Beach is a totally walkable area if you have no issues with walking a mile or two/day.
We’ve never had any times when we felt we were unsafe. Now, we are also mindful of our surroundings and we do not leave the main areas at night. You have to be smart in every city.
If you’re talking about the beach itself, yes! As long as you do not have to park a car anywhere, you can have a beach day that is totally free!
